Requirements for claiming expenses on summer camp

Claiming expenses on summer camp can be achieved with a few requirements

My child is in a summer camp, will this be something I can include on my tax return?

Trey VantreaseEligible taxpayers may be able to claim expenses for summer day camp or for someone to care for their child.  The care must be for a “qualifying person”, which means a child under age 13 or a dependent with disabilities.  The care must have been necessary so the taxpayer could work (or both taxpayer and spouse, if married).  The taxpayer must have earned income to be eligible for the credit.  The credit is worth between 20% and 35% of allowable expenses, which are limited to $3,000 for one qualifying person.  The limit is $6,000 for 2 or more qualifying persons.  To take the credit on your tax return, you will need to make sure you have the name, address, and taxpayer identification number of the care provider.
